Splendid Smile with Orthodontics
The smile is one of the elements that stands out the most on a person's face, proper oral hygiene, proper cleaning of the teeth and the use of a good toothpaste and dental floss are the keys to excellent oral health.
Often due to various factors, people must use orthodontics
to improve the appearance of their teeth, but how do you know what type of
orthodontics is needed?
It must be taken into account that each clinical case is
unique and unrepeatable; for example, there are variables such as the patient's
age and different needs.
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that is responsible
for the study, prevention and correction of those anomalies in the shape,
position or development of the jaws and dental arches; strives to achieve a
functional, morphological and aesthetic balance of the mouth and face.
There are many types of orthodontics that can help with bite
changes or misaligned teeth. The choice depends on the patient, the advice of
the attending specialist and even financial capabilities.
Orthodontic treatment consists in moving the teeth or
displacing the dental arches in such a way that there is a musical assembly
between the parts of the same arch with each other and the upper ones with the
lower ones.
With these systems, problems such as open bite, cross bite,
crowding of teeth, prognathism and others can be corrected, in which the bite
is disturbed.
Among the main types
of orthodontics are:
Functional attachments: This type of orthodontics includes
several removable attachments that are designed to change the position of the
muscles involved in the functions and movements of the jaw. Initially, this
type of orthodontics alters the function of the muscles, which over time leads
to structural changes.
Changing the direction and intensity of the forces, there
are displacements of the teeth and even changes in the supporting bone of the
teeth.
Removable braces are devices that patients can put on and
take off themselves. They can be taken out for consumption and disinfected, but
the longer they stay in the mouth, the better the effect. This type of
orthodontics works by applying controlled pressure to the bone or teeth that
need to be mobilized.
Interceptor
orthodontics: These are acrylic plates that use other elements (such as
arcs, springs, or screws) to apply effective mechanical force to the structure
being modified. They help guide bone growth and expand the dentary bones.
Fixed orthodontics:
as the name suggests, the orthodontic system is fixed on the dental component
and cannot be uninvolved by the patient; It consists of braces, which are
elements that attach to the surface of the tooth and a metal loop runs through
them.
